Howdy,So I thought, hmmm, I think I want to encrypt the folder with tax returns and the like on my X drive.Folder, attributes, advanced, encrypt, viola, done!So then I wanted to copy them to my notebook (which is onto a bitlocker encrypted drive). Now things go pear shaped.”do you want to copy without encryption” is my option with a warning of “a problem is preventing the folder from being encrypted”. I can click yes and it will copy folders but then it pulls up files with “you”ll need to provide admin permission to copy this file” EAC pops up and I keep getting this. It says I require permission from SPEEDYmyname to make changes to this file (for kinda normal pdfs). I also have a passport application pdf in there and it needs permsion from some huge long number to make changes.Basically, my now encryted files I have access to on one drive only it seems; heaven forbid it fails (fortunately its an ssd). I tried to turn off the decryption and the box is unchecked but it wouldn”t “take” and even thought the box is unchecked the folders and files are all still encrypted.Uhhhhh, what should I do? I have access to the files, I have older backups (missing some incremental files).

How to get this mess sorted? I have a .pfx file that got made when I did this but I don”t really know what it does; it doesn”t seem to be a permission thing but opening it pulls up a certificate import wizard. Still now even what this thing does.edit – ok, I can batch select the files in the folders and unclick the box to decrypt them. Now this is a pain in the you know what as there are literally a hundred or so folders and sub folders with files but I can get through it. Actually, this time it seems I can select them all and it is working. Odd.So, to me this doesn”t seem to have quite operated as I expected. I thought if encyrpted when I tried to copy the folder somewhere else it was going to maybe ask for a key/password and that I would then be able to readily open/use on another device.
