I agree with the recommended Terra, Ventus, Aqua order, and it's the order that I played twice when it was on PSP. However, on 2.5 I tried Ventus, Terra, Aqua and I actually liked it a LOT better! I played it immediately after finishing 2FM and Ven plays the most similarly to Sora, which makes the transition easiest. Also, I found it really interesting to go through Ven's story first and find out alongside him what is going on with Terra and the darkness, instead of already knowing because of playing Terra first. Terra's story is also harder than Ven's imo.

Just my two cents. No matter what you do, just make sure to do Aqua last.
Terra, Ven, Aqua. But play on a difficulty harder than Normal if you want to get the platinum. Normal is actually pretty easy especially if you're trying to get all of the treasures and what not.
I've always played it going Ventus, Terra, Aqua and I prefer that order. I think that the Ventus story leaves the most of what's going on with the other characters a mystery which builds better going into the other stories. Also it's the chronological order during the final world.
Terra, Ven, Aqua. The the order I played and the order that I've seen that's usually recommended.
I used to automatically suggest TVA, but honestly, VTA has really grown on me, you start out in the tutorial as Ven anyways, why not continue with him? You'll find out things in the same manner as Ventus, instead of getting frustrated at Ventus not knowing what is happening. Ventus's end fight is easier, and there's only 2 stages instead of 3, so progressing with VTA makes the game get harder and harder rather than easier then hard.
It seems like people recommend TVA to get Terra's story over with, but his story is not boring, it's one of my favorites, actually. He is a bit slower, but it makes playing him more challenging which is fun. The story just gets revealed in a much better manner when playing VTA order.
Just, whatever you do, play Aqua last.
If you're a fan of weird story structures where you don't know what's going on for most of the game, do the reverse order: Aqua, Ventus, Terra. You'll finish each campaign going “so wait what the fuck was everyone else doing?”; especially Terra.
