Hi ladies! I”m trying to finally pick out a crib and am confused. Some of the ones I love have a solid wood back instead of the slats. They all seem to have the same safety certifications but are these really safe or could this be a suffocation risk? Thanks!

I”m fairly certain that solid wood won”t be a suffocation issue. It”s more the soft things that would be an issue.

We went with a solid back one this time. I feel more comfortable with at least 1 of the 4 sides solid. I”m sure it”s a personal preference.
It”s soft sides that are a suffocation risk. Hard sides are fine 🙂 the hospital bAssinets are basically just a plastic tub (4 solid sides) if that makes you feel better about it 😉
I know, I was shocked when they brought my baby in after the tests and there she was basically swaddled in a storage tub on a cart–WTF! 😉
That”s my preferred style. One – they can”t throw pacifiers or stuffed animals back behind the bed and two – if we keep it and convert it into a full bed one day it”s a nicer looking headboard.
They have been making solid back cribs for years safely. Your baby would have to have their nose and mouth completely flat to the side not to breath..not likely..but if you use a bumper, mesh only
Thanks everyone! I figured they must be safe if they were approved but I”m a paranoid first timer stressing about everything lol 🙂
