Is there anybody out there? Is there anybody out there? Is there anybody out there? Is there anybody out there?Come onCome onCome onIs there anybody there?Come onHere's a little somethingI was born as a bastard, no father, no masterA shadow in silence left searching for answersPut up for adoption and left with no optionAnother kid fostered to fester, forgottenTake a look into these desperate eyesAs they’re cast into the wretched hiveBut I ain’t going down aloneIs there anybody out there?Anybody listening to me?Is anybody else scared? The paranoia drops me to my kneesDoes anybody feel lonely?Disconnected from the things I seeIs there anybody out there?Anybody out there just like me?I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe
Come onCome onCome onIs there anybody there?Come onCome onLemme say thisNow I stand as a father, to men with no honorAshamed of the racists I used to call brothers'Cause no flag can mean braveryWhen bloodied by slaveryThe rebel, a devil, disguised as a saviorAnd the sickening feeling in the airIs the fear to speak that no one daresSo will I stand here all alone? Is there anybody out there?Anybody listening to me?Is anybody else scared? The paranoia drops me to my kneesDoes anybody feel lonely?Disconnected from the things I seeIs there anybody out there?Anybody out there just like me?I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe
Live my life like I’ll die tonightDream like I’ll live foreverLive my life like I’ll die tonightDream like I’ll live forever(Is there anybody out there?)I have roared at the world for years(Is there anybody out there?)Doesn’t anybody hear me?(Is there anybody out there?)This burden suffered, I’ve paid the cost(Is there anybody out there?)Not all who wander are lostIs there anybodyIs there anybodyIs there anybodyIs there anybody out there?Anybody listening to me?Is anybody else scared? The paranoia drops me to my kneesDoes anybody feel lonely?Disconnected from the things I seeIs there anybody out there?Anybody out there just like me?I’m choking on these words and I can’t breathe

When Rob wrote this song (before the Dimebash controversy happened), he wanted it to sound as angry as he possibly could.
But there was a downside to the anger. Because of the strong lyrics used, they risked not getting any airplay at all because of it. That’s why they tried to make it as catchy as possible, so they might get some airplay. (in reply to certain sellout comments that have been made about this song)
The lyrics portrays the heartbreak Robb felt at the moment of writing, given unto him by this society. But not only society broke his heart…He also suffered a personal drama,if you allow me to be more precise: he was in a separation from his wife at that time. They were considering a divorce, so that’s where part of the entire pissed off/heartbreak atmosphere comes from.
but where does the other pissed off part come from?(in case you’ve lived in a cave the last 12 months)Now some might have noticed that this song swiftly goes from: “Look into my eyes, feel bad for me, daddy didn’t love me” to “fuck phil.”That’s because originally, the second verse of the song had been written before the Dimebash controversy occured, but this has been altered, as Robb found it to be more ‘fitting’ in the song, because he was really pissed off at Phil, and, well, the song is basicly about anger. The second verse has been written as a straight up fuck you toward Phil Anselmo, after the Phil Anselmo “white Power” Controversy at Dimebash 2016.This controversy was about Phil Anselmo (Ex-Pantera, Down,…) performing a Nazi salute and yelling “White Power” at Dimebash 2016(

Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn has posted a lengthy video calling out Philip Anselmo for shouting out “White power” and throwing up a Nazi salute during Dimebash 2016. Anselmo chalked up the incident to an inside joke about drinking white wine at the gig, but Flynn professes there was “not a chardonnay or a pinot grigio in sight backstage.”
)When this news was leaked out, Robb Flynn created a video in which he expressed his feelings toward racism in metal and discrimination in general(can be seen here:
).He stated that he had been dealing with Phil’s racist behaviour for over 20 years, and that now he was fed up with it.So he decided to take the opportunity, and state his opinion on Philip in public.Robb Flynn believes that racism does NOT belong in metal, or in this world in general. And that was the meaning he tried to point out with his lyrics.for more details on the story, click this link:

The fan theories are true. In a video post by Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn, he reveals the new track ” Is There Anybody Out There?” was indeed partially inspired by the Philip Anselmo “white power” incident earlier this year.
