The first time Max Holloway faced Jose Aldo, Holloway was the interim UFC featherweight champion and Also was the undisputed titleholder. The title unification bout served as the main event of UFC 212 in Brazil. That contest ended with Holloway leaving Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as the one and only featherweight champ via third-round knockout. Six months later, the two met for the second time in the main event of UFC 218, which took place in Detroit, Michigan.

When the rematch between these two took place, Aldo was the No. 1 ranked featherweight contender. He was also a +230 underdog to the champion, who entered the contest as a -300 favorite.
Holloway set a fast pace in the rematch. He worked body strikes early and got Aldo to engage him in a slugfest. Those approaches left Aldo sapped of energy by the time Holloway closed out the fight at the 4:51 of the third stanza with another TKO.
Holloway then defended his title against Brian Ortega with a doctor stoppage TKO.

In April, Holloway’s 13-fight winning streak came to an end when he moved up to lightweight to face Dustin Poirier for the interim lightweight title. Holloway bounced back from that setback with a decision win over former lightweight titleholder Frankie Edgar.
On Saturday, Holloway faces Alexander Volkanovski in the co-main event of the UFC 245 pay-per-view card. Holloway is a -185 favorite over Volkanovski, who is a +150 underdog. Volkanovski, who is the No. 1 ranked contender in the featherweight division, is on a 17-fight winning streak. Seven of those wins have come with the UFC. Volkanovski’s most recent victory was a May decision victory over Aldo.

UFC 245 takes place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on ESPN+ streaming pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN2 and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass/ESPN+.
